The World Happiness Report has given some good news in the midst of many deaths and misery in the year of the epidemic. This annual report of the United Nations says that Bangladesh has made seven steps in the list of happy countries in 2021.

The United Nations Sustainable Development Network (SDSN) has published its tenth report on the eve of World Happiness Day on March 20. Bangladesh ranks 94th out of 146 countries with 5.5 points.

Since 2012, the United Nations has sought to understand how happy the people of a country are based on these seven criteria - gross domestic product, social security, desired life expectancy, freedom of decision, humanity, perception of corruption and overall misery. In the three episodes of generosity in the epidemic, unimaginable changes have taken place in the world. Last year, charitable activities, helping strangers and volunteering increased by about 25 percent.

Finland has been on the happiness list for the past five years. Denmark is in second place after Finland with 7.6 points. Strong democracy, low levels of corruption have played a major role in achieving the top spot, SDNN reported. Next on the list of happiest countries are Iceland, Switzerland, the Netherlands.

As the unhappy country, Afghanistan is at the bottom of the list with 2.404 points. The next four countries are Lebanon, Zimbabwe, Rwanda and Botswana.

Among the South Asian countries, only Nepal is happier than Bangladesh. Besides Pakistan is in 121st position, Myanmar is in 126th position, Sri Lanka is in 127th position and India is in 136th position.

The listing of happy countries is based on one's own assessment of human happiness, as well as economic and social conditionsconditions. In addition, the personal well-being of the people of each country, personal freedom, GDP and the level of corruption are taken into consideration.

The United States ranks 16th this year, three steps ahead of last year. They are followed by Canada and then the United Kingdom.
