In the next six to eight weeks, half the population of Europe will be infected with the new strain of coronavirus, Omicron. The World Health Organization has given such a warning message.
In the first week of 2022, about 7 million people across Europe became infected with Omicron. On this basis, the world organization is estimating. The number of infections in the region has more than doubled in the space of two weeks.
In this regard, the director of the European Region of the World Health Organization. Hans Klug, quoting the Seattle-based Institute for Health Metrics and Evolution, said that in the next six to eight weeks, 50 percent of the region's population will be exposed to immunization.
He further added that at present the tidal wave of Omicron infection is blowing from west to east in the region. Countries in the region have tackled the delta strain of the corona virus by the end of 2021.
According to him, the virus is spreading from western countries to the Balkans. As a result, European and Central Asian countries are under 'severe pressure'.
How countries deal with it now depends on the epidemic situation, the resources available, the vaccination status, and the socio-economic context.
Recent research suggests that Omicron is a highly contagious type of covid. Although the rate of serious illness is relatively low, the incidence of infection is increasing even after vaccination.
A further 1,42,224 coronas were identified and eight died in the UK on Monday. Meanwhile, about 100,000 people have died from the virus since the outbreak began in the Eastern European country of Poland.
Russia, meanwhile, fears the number of daily attacks in Russia could reach 100,000 if immediate action is not taken.
Last Monday, Pfizer reported that the company was going to produce specialized vaccines to prevent immunization by March. However, health experts are not sure whether it is necessary.
