A spokesman for the country's disaster management department said this at a press conference on Saturday.
At around 3:30 pm Bangladesh time, a strong earthquake shook the coastal region of Indonesia. Several cities in the country have been severely damaged.
Numerous structures including parliament buildings, schools, hospitals and houses have been damaged. Rescuers are conducting rescue operations in these areas. Complete damage is still being verified.
Authorities are still unsure whether the death toll could rise. The epicenter was reported below the ground, however; no tsunami alert was issued.
