'Ziaur Rahman was the mastermind behind Bangabandhu's assassination'
On Monday (March 8) afternoon, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina addressed a discussion meeting organized by the Awami League on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of Bangabandhu's speech on March 7.

During the meeting, the Prime Minister said that like the Pakistani military junta, the party of Bangabandhu's assassins did not understand the meaning of the March 7 speech. Bangabandhu prepared the people of this country step by step for independence. And in his March 7 speech, he gave all the instructions for guerrilla warfare.

Ziaur Rahman was involved in killing Bengalis at the beginning of the war, he said, adding that Ziaur Rahman was forced to read Bangabandhu's declaration of independence.

The Prime Minister further said that the BNP does not understand the significance of the March 7 speech because they are a murderous party. Like the present BNP, the then-student leader Sirajul Alam Khan also failed to understand the significance of Bangabandhu's speech, the Prime Minister said.
