
On Tuesday, Trump's lawyers said the upper house of the U.S. Congress could not hear his impeachment now that Trump's term as president has expired. They say the Senate does not even have the authority to prevent Trump from running for president again.
On January 20, Trump left his presidency. In a 14-page statement, his lawyers said Trump was not provoked by the violence on Capitol Hill.
The impeachment hearing of the former president is set to begin on February 9 in the upper house of the US Congress.
