Bloody Afghanistan in airstrikes again. At least 18 Taliban fighters have been killed in airstrikes by Afghan government forces.

The attack took place in the eastern province of Nangarhar.

China's Xinhua news agency said the local government had provided such information in a statement on Saturday. It said the airstrikes were carried out in the Sherzad district of Nangarhar. Among those killed were 14 members of the Taliban's so-called Red Unit or Special Fighter Regiment, including provincial commander Khalid.

Afghan security forces have stepped up operations against the Taliban. The Taliban have not yet commented on the deaths.
