A 20-year-old girl named Swati has married in Kanpur a year ago. Her in-laws took her back to her father's house on Thursday as she was having an illicit affair.

Citing the family, police officer Anil Kumar said the father had a quarrel with Chandramohan Singh over his relationship with his boyfriend. The father shot his licensed gun as the girl refused to leave the relationship. The girl was killed on the spot. He later called the police station and waited for an arrest.

Later, without waiting for the police, he drove his scooter to the local police station. After hearing it all, the police arrested him.

Police further said that Chandramohan claimed that he was upset with his daughter. Meanwhile, Swati's body has been sent to the morgue for autopsy. Chandramohan's licensed gun used in the murder has also been seized. However, Swati's mother and brother have not been found since the incident. Police are searching for them.
