The government of India has allowed the emergency use of biotech covacin. However, the final clearance will be given by the Drug Control General of India-DCGI.
However, the vaccine has passed two of the three stages of the clinical trial. There is still one step left, which started in November.
Bharat Biotech has developed covacin in a joint venture with the Indian Council of Medical Research and the Pune Institute of Virology. The company conducted clinical trials on about 26,000 people across India.
Two more vaccines are awaiting approval in the country. One is Cadillac Zykov-D. The other is Russia's Sputnik-V. Meanwhile, in the first phase in India, 30 million people will be vaccinated against coronavirus for free.
On Saturday, the country's health minister said that in the first phase, one crore health workers and 20 million front workers will be vaccinated. Among these workers are people who are working relentlessly in the fight against the epidemic including the police.
