Azerbaijani soldier was killed and another wounded in an attack by Armenian separatist guerrillas in the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Azerbaijani troops suffered casualties just weeks after the two sides signed a full-fledged ceasefire agreement aimed at ending the conflict.
Azerbaijan's Defense Ministry said in a statement on Monday that "yesterday an illegal armed group from Armenia attacked an Azeri military outpost in the village of Agdam in the Khojabend area of Karabakh." One of our soldiers was killed and another was wounded.
The Azerbaijani ministry said in a statement that Azerbaijani forces later retaliated and eliminated all members of the Armenian armed group. The ministry said in a statement that an armed group of six people attacked the Azerbaijani army.
Meanwhile, news agency Reuters says Armenian authorities have reported no such incident.
