On this day in 2001, 19 militants linked to al-Qaeda hijacked four planes and carried out suicide attacks in three places in the United States.

Today marks the 19th anniversary of the terrorist attack on the Twin Towers by the militant group Al Qaeda. On this morning in 2001, al-Qaeda terrorists attacked the United States with four hijacked planes at the behest of militant leader Osama bin Laden.

Two planes hit the Twin Towers of the World Trade Center in New York at the same time. The third struck at the Pentagon and the fourth at Sanksville, Pennsylvania. The attacks killed 2,996 people in six countries, including six Bangladeshis, and left many injured.

A memorial service has been held at Ground Zero in New York since the attack. But this time the event is being limited due to the Corona epidemic. The commemoration ceremony will start at 8:30 am local time. Vice President Mike Pence will be the guest there.
