A ship sank in the Sea of Japan while taking cattle from New Zealand to China. In addition to about 6,000 cattle, there were 42 sailors and crew on board.
The country's coastguard has rescued a crew member of the cargo ship Gulf Livestock One. The rescued person is a citizen of the Philippines. Of the 42 sailors and crew, 39 are from the Philippines, and two each from New Zealand and Australia.
The ship sent a warning signal after being caught in a storm in the East China Sea on Thursday (September 3rd) before going missing. The ship left New Zealand for China on 14 August.
Four search ships and several aircraft of the Japanese Coast Guard are searching for the ship that sank in the Sea of Japan.
Surviving Philippine citizen Sareno Edvarodo told the Japanese Coast Guard that the ship sank after an engine failed. The man could not say what happened to the other 41 sailors and crew of the ship.
