A housewife who was raped in Godagari of Rajshahi has committed suicide without getting justice.

The incident took place in Ghiapukur mahalla of Kankonhat in Godagari around 1 am on Wednesday (September 9). Police arrested three people, including a local councilor, and sent them to jail through a court on Thursday (September). The arrested are Lutfar Rahman Bishu, Akbar Ali, and Merajul Islam, councilors of ward number one of Kankonhat municipality. Everyone's home is in Ghiyapukur mahalla. However, the main rapist Mofizul Islam has not been arrested yet. Mofizul's father's name is Ataur Rahman.

The deceased was identified as Sakina Begum, 35. His home is in Ghiapukur mahalla of ward number one of Kankonhat municipality in the Godagari district. Her husband's name is Kamal Hossain. Kamal lives in Chittagong due to his job.

According to police and locals, Mofizul Islam entered the house of Sakina Begum, a mother of two, on Wednesday night and raped her. At the housewife's shout, neighbors Akbar Ali and Merajul Islam grabbed the rapist Mofizul and took him to Councilor Lutfar Rahman Bishu. But everyone including the councilor released Mofizul at night. Later in the night, the housewife committed suicide by hanging herself.

Godagari Police Station OC Khairul Islam said, "Initially, we found the truth of the rape." The body of the deceased was recovered and sent to Rajshahi Medical College Hospital for autopsy and rape examination. His body was handed over to his family after collecting evidence.

He added that the housewife had committed suicide after releasing the accused without informing the police. That is why three people, including the municipal councilor, were arrested. For now, they have been arrested under Section 54 and sent to jail through the court. The victim's father has filed a case with the police station alleging rape and incitement to suicide. A total of four people, including three sent to jail, have been charged in the case. Mofizul, accused of rape, has become the main accused. He is a fugitive. Attempts are being made to arrest him.
