The Modi government issued three anti-farmer ordinances in June.

Harsimrat Kaur Badal, leader of Punjab's Akali Dal, has resigned from Modi's cabinet in protest of a new agricultural bill in India. The leader, an old ally of the BJP and one of the allies of the NDA alliance, resigned on Thursday.

He was the only member of the Akali Dal in the cabinet. He later said on Twitter that he could not take part in any anti-farmer decision. The Modi government issued three anti-farmer ordinances in June.

The opposition leadership, including the Congress, alleged that the interests of the industrialists and businessmen were not seen there. Although the Akali Dal was supporting the passage of the bill, Harsimrat recently announced his resignation after farmers from various states from Punjab and Haryana took to the streets to protest.
