The Russian Foreign Ministry has sharply criticized the six-nation nuclear deal with Iran and the US withdrawal from Security Council Resolution 2231. Russia made the remarks after the United Nations Security Council rejected a proposal by the United States to renew its arms embargo on Iran.

Russia's foreign ministry said in a statement on Saturday that the US government had "angered most countries" by delaying the implementation of Resolution 2231 and trying to destroy the nuclear deal.

The statement added that the failure of the Security Council to pass a resolution against Iran has proved once again that it will not be possible to resolve the Persian Gulf crisis by putting pressure on Iran and cornering the country.

An online meeting of the UN Security Council was held last night and the US proposal was rejected. The United States and the Dominican Republic voted in favor of the proposal.
